Snowpack levels are still higher than normal in both the East Kootenay and the Columbia Valley at this time.
The BC River Forecast Centre released their latest snow basin index this week, covering data up to March 1st.
The measurements show the East Kootenay region is currently at 111 percent of normal, slightly less than the 117 percent reported in February.
The Upper Columbia region saw a slight drop in their snowpack levels, going from 130 percent of normal in February to 123 percent at the start of this month. That’s the highest the index has been for the region at this time of year since 1996.
The BC River Forecast Centre warns Communities like Golden could be at risk for flooding through the freshet and may remain at risk into late June or even July due to the significant high elevation snow pack.
Overall, the snowpack across the province is slightly above average at 105 per cent of normal.
