What future work could be needed for Kimberley’s Civic Centre and the Marysville Arena?
That’s the question facing city council, as they received a building condition assessment for both arenas.
The assessment was done by Stephenson Engineering and provided a priority list of projects in both arenas, analyzing all areas that could use repairs or replacements.
It also provided an estimate on the remaining lifecycles of the two facilities, with the Civic Centre estimated to have 26 years of anticipated useful life remaining and the Marysville Arena estimated to have 37 years of useful life remaining.
Mayor Don McCormick says while plenty of data was presented, no decisions have been made by council on any repairs or replacements suggested in the report.
“There are no real conclusions, its analysis and data,” McCormick says. “What staff needs to do now is take that data and come back with some strategies.”
City staff will be reviewing the assessment to look at any financial implications recommended repairs could have on the city’s upcoming Financial Plan.
More discussion on the document is expected in the future.
