
RCMP have confirmed that a man died while skiing at Fernie Alpine Resort over the weekend.
Police issued a release after they were called to a hospital Saturday afternoon for a report that a man had been admitted with critical injuries following a skiing incident at Fernie’s ski resort.
The 65 year old man from Calgary died prior to police arriving at the hospital.
Officers determined that the man and a friend had been skiing at the resort around 4 pm when the man hit an icy portion, losing control and sliding into a tree.
The BC Coroners Service will also be conducting an investigation into the circumstances around the man’s death.

The Elk Valley RCMP and BC Coroners Service are investigating a death at Fernie ski resort on Saturday afternoon.
Just after 5:20 p.m. on February 12, 2022, frontline officers from the Elk Valley RCMP were called to a local area hospital for a report that a man had been admitted with critical injuries following a skiing incident on a Fernie ski resort. Prior to police arrival, the 65-year-old from Calgary died.
Officers determined that the man and a friend had been skiing at the resort at approximately 4 pm when it appeared the man hit an icy portion and lost an edge, causing him to lose control and slide into a tree.
The BC Coroners Service will conduct its own investigation into the circumstances around the man’s death.
