Apparently, lady luck misplaced her Cranbrook Bucks jersey Wednesday night.
A great offensive effort was undone by the visiting Trail Smoke Eaters, who managed to tally a converted touchdown in Wednesday’s 7-4 win.
The first period saw fifteen minutes of evenly-played hockey, but the Smokies would find the net twice before the end of the frame to take a 2-0 lead.
Trail picked up where the left off to begin the second period with a Zach Michaelis goal at 1:31.
The Bucks managed to respond with goals from Tyson Dyck and Johnny Johnson to get to within one goal of the Smoke Eaters, but Trail would quickly reply with two goals of their own.
The fourth Smoke Eaters goal resulted in a goalie change for Cranbrook, with Evan Gartner coming in lieu of Nathan Airey, but the hulking Cranbrook goalie didn’t fare much better.
Trail and Cranbrook would each add another goal in the second period, leaving the Smoke Eaters with a 5-3 lead to begin third period action.
A quick goal from Cranbrook’s Tyson Dyck pulled the team back to within one, but two more Trail goals in the third period put a huge dent in Cranbrook’s comeback hopes.
The Smokies would end up taking a 7-4 victory, despite being vastly outshot at 49-28.
The Bucks see their record fall to 9-7-1 with the loss, and they’ve lost their last four home games.
With the victory, Trail leads their season series with Cranbrook 3-1.
Cranbrook is on the road for their next six games starting Friday in Penticton.
