Several roads and facilities remain closed in Fernie following the major storm that hit the province.
This as an Evacuation Alert remains active for 11 properties in Hosmer following heavy rain and localized flooding throughout the region.
Road closures remain in effect throughout the community, including a section of Coal Creek Road, Montane Parkway, Cokato Road and the intersection of Anderson Road and Highway 3.
Highway 3 also remains closed in both directions east of Fernie, with a detour in place at Dicken Road.
Several facilities and trails in Fernie are also closed, with a full list available on our website.
– Max Turyk soccer fields are closed.
– The Railway Underpass Trail between Pine Ave and Park Ave has been closed due to extreme danger and bank erosion.
– Dogwood Park Trail to Park Ave is closed.
– Montane Recreation Trails, Ridgemont Recreation Trails, and Fernie Ridge Trails are closed to the public until further notice for safety and remediation.
City staff say they are working hard to ensure water and wastewater infrastructure continues to operate properly under intense flows.
Street crews are also working to keep catch basins and culverts clear and flowing.
Residents are advised that self-serve sandbag stations are available in two locations.
– 1350 Railway Avenue, corner of Railway Ave & Ridgemont Ave, across from TJ’s Auto Body.
– Hosmer Pub on Highway 3.
