The City of Cranbrook is looking ahead to the next 20 years, and they want residents and community partners to be a part of the process.
The City is looking to update its Official Community Plan to 2042, the existing OCP was adopted in 2006.
Pop up engagement sessions are set throughout the next few days, and a short visioning survey is available.

The City of Cranbrook is inviting residents and community stakeholders to guide our path to 2042 by participating in the update of the Official Community Plan (OCP).
The City’s existing OCP was adopted in 2006, and Cranbrook has undergone significant change since then. The City of Cranbrook will be working together with the Project Team from Urban Systems Ltd. to develop a new OCP that reflects the current needs of the community and guides its growth and development over the next 20 years.
From now through early 2022, the City will be inviting community members to get involved in creating the OCP. The City would like to uncover what the community’s values and priorities are for the future so that these can be reflected in the new document.
“The Our Path to Cranbrook 2042 OCP is our main tool for determining how these different policies will show up, change and shape our community over the next 20 years,” says Mayor Lee Pratt. “And that’s why we need residents’ input. An OCP is about listening and co-creating goals to build a great city – together.”
The City is asking residents to complete a short Visioning Survey available here. The community’s vision for the future will be used as a starting point for formulating the policy direction that is included in the OCP.
Residents are also invited to attend one of the pop-up engagement activities planned throughout the City this week:
• Friday, Oct. 29 from 9:00 am – 12:15 pm at the Aquatic Centre at Western Financial Place.
• Friday, Oct. 29 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the College of the Rockies.
• Saturday, Oct. 30 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Farmer’s Market.
• Saturday, Oct. 30 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Real Canadian Superstore
• Saturday, Oct. 30 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Cranbrook Bucks game at Western Financial Place
Every municipality in British Columbia is required to have an OCP under the Local Government Act. An OCP guides the growth and development of a community. It provides direction and guidance on items relating to land use, transportation, housing, environment, infrastructure, parks, agriculture, economic development, art, and culture, and more to give shape and overall function to a municipality.
Residents are invited to learn more about the Our Path to 2042 OCP at https://www.cranbrook2042.ca.
