Amplify East Kootenay is serving as a spotlight for businesses throughout the region.
Today, we look at The Bull River Inn in Bull River.
Why have our listeners nominated this business? – “It’s not near any other restaurants or businesses! It always a great atmosphere there (a nostalgic feel to it for sure!). By far my favourite part is they have a wood fireplace inside and there’s nothing better then stopping in for lunch or dinner on a cold winter day. The menu is also huge with lots of variety. Something for everyone is on there!”
How do listeners feel this business has amplified the community? – “The Bull River Inn has amplified the East Kootenay by being a place of gathering in a rural area! Providing lots of history and photos of the Bull River history inside. If the Bull River Inn was to shut down, I feel a vital piece of East Kootenay history could be lost.”
The Bull River Inn is located on the east side of the Kootenay River, where it has served as a pub for over 40 years.
Owner Ed Abbey says the Inn has a great menu and an accommodating staff.
He says the Bull River Inn provides a welcoming experience for residents and travelers stopping into the region.
“I think its a culmination of things really,” Abbey says. “Its our menu that is varied and consistent, our staff which are friendly and accommodating. Our location, we’re in a beautiful place with beautiful views. We’re family friendly and we have a great atmosphere.”
Abbey says they welcome customers who come to the inn by any means.
“We’ve got a hitching post outside, so you can come by horseback. You can boat to the bridge, which is 200 metres away,” Abbey says. “You can quad side-by-side from Tie Lake over the Pickering Hills. We’ve got cyclists who ride that road all the time, we got motorcyclists who love that road as well.”
Abbey says the Bull River Inn is there for people who break down over the Bull River Road or those who have lost pets.
He adds the inn has also been an active part of charity events and fundraisers for local causes, including hosting Fishing Derbies in support of the East Kootenay Foundation for Health.
The Bull River Inn is located at 4569 Wardner Fort Steele Road in Bull River.
